WE Ride — Issue #2: Matt Corlett
Posted by Whites Powersports onIf you missed the first issue of our new, WE Ride (Whites Employees Ride) series, we’re going to share our passion for two wheels by showing you what we ride, what we wear, and some insight into our life on two wheels. Hopefully WE Ride helps motivate you to get into the shed, get into your gear, and get out and ride!
Here’s issue #2 with one of our Australian team members.
What’s your name, what do you ride, and what do you do at Whites?
Matt Corlett, 2020 Suzuki DL650XT (non-LAMS), and I’m part of the WP Internal Sales team in Australia.
This involves processing general email/phone/online orders and other sales- and stock-related enquires, as well as this I support a number of key accounts ensuring a more personalised experience.
How long have you had your bike and what mods have you made to it so far?
I’ve owned it for two years and added the following...
- Givi Split adjustable screen.
- Givi Topbox.
- Kaoko Throttle/Cruise Control.
- Giant Loop Diablo Tankbag.
- Whites Powersports Gel Seat.
- KRONYO PUNCTURE REPAIR KIT CO2 (wicks Cannister Sml Reg Bag).
- WHITES PORTABLE TYRE PUMP & POWER BANK
- Quadlock phone holder.
- Oxford Adventure Heated Grips.

Do you have more plans for your DL?
I currently live in Melbourne and work in the Boronia office, however in December I relocate to Brisbane and will be based in our Willawong office. The trusty VStrom shall be a commuting bike and we’ll also hit the gravel roads, exploring the Queensland countryside.
What sort of riding do you enjoy and where do you like to do it?
The Great Ocean Road (Victoria).
Are there any notable products that you use on the regular to enhance your riding?
- Oxford Mint — Helmet Care Kit.
- Putoline N-TECH® PRO R+ OFF ROAD 10W-40.
- Putoline Chain Lube O/X-Ring – 500ml.
- Oxford Mint Bike Wash 5L.
Tell us a bit about your life on two wheels...
I grew up in the Glenrowan/Winton (rural NE Victoria area) as a kid and racing interested me back then — my father was Norton-mad due to coming from the Isle of Man.
We relocated to the Isle of Man when I was 13 and at 16, I started riding in the Isle of Man on a Honda CBR125R Repsol Replica. I wanted to be the late, great Joey Dunlop or local Aussie TT winner, Cameron Donald. I lost count of how many times that bike went around the TT course, but I learnt every bump in the road and always a new spot to watch out for the year after.
The reason for riding? When you ride the TT course over the mountain with unrestricted speed zones and when you get the corners right/flowing, it's the closest feeling to man flying without leaving the ground!
Tell us about your gear — why you chose it and what you like about it.
I run the LS2 MX701 Explorer Alter Helmet (Matte Black / Hi-Vis). I hadn't used an adventure style helmet before, I like the internal sun visor feature, as well as the peak.
